The reader needs to be patient and persevering, not a deal breaker for literary fiction devotees, but trying for many others. The story unfolds in relatively short chapters rendered in first person narratives from three women that do not necessarily proceed chronologically. Rachel is the girl on the train. She’s got a serious drinking problem, and wanders a bit as she unravels for herself and the police what she has seen and experienced. Paula Hawkins shares her compassion and understanding of Rachel, Megan and Anna in convincing fashion with loads of marital and extra-marital angst brimming over into a flood of plot twists.
